After being shutout in the finals of the Leeds and Grenville high school to Ganonoque in 2012, the St. Mary’s Crusaders out of Brockville hope to rebound in the upcoming 2013 season. One of the exciting players to watch this upcoming season that has graduated to the senior squad is 6’1 190 pound pivot Tanner DeJong.

Tanner is expected to immediately compete for the starting quarterback position. Β His size and arm strength should bode well for their already potent offensive attack.

“He is an old school pocket passer with an absolute cannon of an arm,” raved junior Crusaders coach Steve White. “This kid will be a heck of a player at the senior level.”

“He’s a great kid with a bright future”

Not only does Tanner play with the Crusaders, he is also the starting quarterback for the junior varsity Β Kingston Grenadiers of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

Football is not the only sport that Tanner is involved with as he is also a highly touted volleyball player.

“He is a quiet kid, but don’t let that fool you” says Tanner’s father Dale DeJong. “He hates to lose.”

As for the future, the 2015 grad Β has not committed to a school at this point in time. The future looks bright for the St. Mary’s Crusaders with talented young men like Tanner leading the way.
