USA Football, the sport’s national governing body on youth and amateur levels, today announced a player watch list for the 2011 U.S. Under-19 National Team composed of 241 high school seniors spanning 35 states. The roster of 45 American teenagers will compete in the second “Team USA vs. The World” game in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 2, 2011.

The annual international competition features America’s Under-19 National Team – composed of current high school seniors (class of 2011) – against a World team of teenage football players spanning as many as four continents. Both teams will field a 45-player roster. The 2010 game was won by Team USA, 17-0, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The 2011 “Team USA vs. The World” game will be played at Austin (Texas) Westlake High School’s Ebbie Neptune Field at Chaparral Stadium.

USA Football is America’s delegate to the International Federation of American Football (IFAF). USA Football is also the official football development partner of the NFL and the NFL Players Association. The World team and coaching staff will be assembled by IFAF. Established in 1998 and based in France, IFAF is composed of 59 nations across five continents. Each of IFAF’s 59 member countries possess a national federation dedicated solely to American football.

DARREN ALLMAN of Austin Westlake High School is Team USA’s head coach. Allman’s head coaching record is 53-17 (.757), which includes four seasons as head coach at his alma mater, Odessa (Texas) Permian (2005-08). Allman led Austin Westlake to a berth in the Texas Class 5-A (largest school division) title game last season, his first at the school, and coached Permian to a pair of district titles en route to reaching the regional finals in three consecutive years. In 2008, Allman was named District Coach of the Year and was selected coach the North Team in the Texas High School Association’s All-Star Game. In 2006 and 2007, he was named All-West Texas Coach of the Year. Allman joins past U.S. Under-19 National Team head coaches CHUCK KYLE of Cleveland St. Ignatius H.S. (2009) and CHRIS MERRITT of Miami Christopher Columbus H.S. (2010) in leading Team USA. Allman will select his Team USA coaching staff in the weeks ahead.

Coaches, athletes and parents are encouraged to submit Team USA player nominations at www.usafootball.com/teamusa through Nov. 1. USA Football will determine its roster of 45 players in December through scouting evaluations. In addition to being among America’s top high school senior football players, Team USA athletes will personify football’s inherent values of teamwork and leadership befitting a national team.
Details regarding Austin training sites for each team and ticket information will be announced in December.
