Highly touted #CFC100 VanDeHogen staying in Waterloo

The Warriors pick up a highly sought after commit from the Waterloo area.

When #CFC100 Riley VanDeHogen, a left tackle from St. David Catholic Secondary School, enters the Waterloo Warrior’s locker room, the monstrous new commit will definitely turn some heads.

VanDeHogen is a towering 6’7, 320lbs and plays with St. David Celtics (Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association.) The young football player hails from Waterloo, which makes it an easier commute to his new school.

In 2015, he began playing with the Twin City Predators (Ontario Football Conference). He also participated in the 2015 Ontario Prospect Challenge and was a member of Team Ontario that competed in Arlington, Texas at the International Bowl.

According to CTV Kitchener, VanDeHogen was sought after from 20 CIS schools and even gained interest from Division 1 schools in the NCAA. He decided, however, to stay close to home after navigating two years of recruitment. He told CTV Kitchener that Waterloo is home to him and that it is nice to finally commit to a team.

Chris Bertoia, the head coach of the Warriors, said that, “We’re pleased that Riley decided to stay in our city. It’s very important to secure the commitment of top football players from our region. He is a bright young man; this is also an important qualifier for our University with its high academic value.”

He added that, “Riley is a very big young man (6’7 – 320). He has worked hard on improving his agility and technique over the last two years. With our program continuing to rebuild, he will have an opportunity to compete early in his career. We’re happy to add his size to our offensive line, we look forward to working with him and watching him develop into a very good offensive lineman.”
