Himmelman heading to Under 18 Football Canada Cup

West Ferris Trojans linebacker/tight end Detlev Himmelman will be heading to the East Coast shortly as a Member of Team Ontario East.

The Trojans star will be taking part in the 2010 Under 18 Football Canada Cup which kicks off July 10th to 17th at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

Himmelman made the team after going through 3 grueling tryouts this spring in Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton before being named to the 40-man roster.

“I did well enough to make it to the final tryouts at McMaster and then a couple weeks later I got called by coach Luigi Costanza, head coach of Ontario East team, and he told me I made the team and I was pretty excited about it,” admitted the West Ferris player who made the Ontario East team as a linebacker.

“It’s hard enough in North Bay playing any good football around but if you can go down south and make these teams it’s a really good opportunity.”

Himmelman is hoping his performance at Acadia University will attract the eye of CIS scouts or maybe even some NCAA football scouts who will be attending the event.

He is expecting to return to West Ferris to play both linebacker and tight end again this fall.
