Holland College Hurricanes prepare for battle for first place in AFL action

Charlottetown – The second-place Holland College Hurricanes will play the undefeated UNB Red Bombers this Saturday at the BMO Centre in Fredericton at noon in a battle for first place.

Last time the teams met, the Red Bombers beat the Hurricanes 28-21 at UPEI Canada Games Alumni Place. The ’Canes are planning to turn that score around this time, said head coach Mark MacDougall.
β€œWe started this season with a lot of new players, so it’s taken a while for the team to find its rhythm. The players are honing their ability to work as a team with every practice and every game. They’re ready for the Saturday rematch.”
Red Bombers quarterback Brendan Cornford has led an impressive passing attack for UNB this season. β€œShutting down the corners and containing the passing game is the key for us in this game,” said MacDougall.
A win by the Red Bombers will secure a first-place finish for the club and home-field advantage in the playoffs. For the Hurricanes, a victory will keep their first-place hopes alive.
The Hurricanes next home game, the last of the regular season, will be on Saturday, October 20th, when they host the UNB Saint John Seawolves at 1:00 p.m. at UPEI Canada Games Alumni Place.
In other AFL action on Saturday, last-place UNB Saint John Seawolves visit third-place Dalhousie Tigers at Wickwire Field.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
