Homegrown commitment

Sackville defensive lineman newest recruit to join AUS team’s 2014 class.

A Nova Scotia defensive standout has opted to play in front of the hometown crowd this upcoming fall.

Kyle MacDonald has committed to the Saint Mary’s Huskies for the 2014 AUS season.  The 6’2, 255 pound defensive lineman from Sackville, Nova Scotia decided on the Huskies for a couple of reasons.

“I committed to Saint Mary`s because it had the program I wanted to study in criminology and the football team is always one of the best in the AUS,” commented MacDonald on his commitment.  “Overall, SMU just meet everything I was looking for with education and football.”

During his career, MacDonald has played for the Dartmouth Destroyers, Bedford-Sackville Saints, the Metro Mustangs of the Nova Scotia Indoor Spring League (NSISL) and his high school team, Sackville High Kingfishers of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL).

This past season, Kyle was named NSSAFFL Scotia Division MVP and selected to the NSSAFFL Scotia Division First All-Star Team at a defensive lineman position.

In 2013, MacDonald guided the Mustangs to a NSISL championship.  The defensive lineman represented his home province as a member of Team Nova Scotia at the 2013 Football Canada Cup in Moncton, New Brunswick.

As for the Huskies, the team looks forward to adding a homegrown talent to the fold.

“We are very happy to have Kyle join us at Saint Mary’s,” commented Huskies Head Coach Perry Marchese.  “He is a great addition to the family.”
