Hometown pride on the line for Lancer commit

Windsor brings in local commit to their Class of 2017.

Matthew James, a wide receiver from Kennedy Collegiate Institute, will be playing for hometown pride when he joins the Windsor Lancers.

When you’ve lived and played in a city your entire life, you get to know people. “I chose to commit to Windsor (because of) the relationship I have with the players and the coaching staff on the team, which I have played alongside with since I started playing football,” James said.

The 5’8, 190lbs Essex Raven (OVFL) added that what appealed to him most about the program was the relationship between the coaches and players. “It’s like a family bond that made me feel like I already fit in with the program, and already having a relationship with the players and coaches would benefit me as a person and player,” he said.

James was overall impressed with the Lancers field bosses, saying that he thinks the school has one of the best coaching staffs in U Sports. “They strive to make a bond with each and every player on the roster to benefit them as a person and a football player,” he said.

“Being a new player, the coaching staff was super welcoming to me. Each one of them I met (was) getting to know more about me to learn about me as a person and player to build a strong bond that will benefit the program.”

During his career, the dual slotback and wide receiver played with Kennedy Collegiate Institute Clippers (Windsor and Essex County Secondary Schools Athletic Association), having been named to the WECSSAA first team all-city in 2015 and 2016. The potential criminology and pre-law student was also an offensive MVP in these years.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
