Saskatoon defensive back commits to local CIS team.

Chris Friesen will be virtually playing in his own backyard.

Recently, the 6ā€™0, 190 pound defensive back from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan committed to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies for the 2014 CWUAA season.

ā€œThere were many factors in my decision to play for the Huskies – a big one of course is being able to play in front of my hometown crowd,ā€ expressed Friesen.Ā  ā€œThe Huskies have a very-well run organization with great coaches and I am really looking forward to being able to play in front of my friends and family.ā€

ā€œI have a lot of old teammates from the Hilltops who are currently playing for University of Saskatchewan which was another big factor in my decision to choose the Huskies.ā€

Friesen comes to the Huskies after a five year stint with the Saskatoon Hilltops of the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).Ā  During his time with the Hilltops, Friesen alternated between the safety, halfback and cornerback positons.

In 2013, Friesen was named PFC Defensive Player of the Year and was selected as a league All-Star.

Previous to the HIlltops, the defensive back suited up for his high school team, Evan Hardy Collegiate Souls of the Saskatoon Secondary Schools Athletic Directorate (SSSAD).
