How the Eskimos Climbed to Top Spot in CFL Power Rankings, Argonauts And Redblacks Plummet Down

The Canadian Football League (CFL), the premier football league in Canada, is now on full blast and is approaching the conclusion of the season’s first month. Now, the league has just revealed its latest power rankings, showcasing the top 10 performing teams in the CFL. There are a lot of changes in the ranking due to a number of turnaround of events. The Eskimos, the Argonauts, and the Redblacks are among these teams.

Edmonton Eskimos in No. 1 Spot with 3 Consecutive Wins

The Edmonton Eskimos finally made it to the CFL power ranking’s top spot, thanks to their undying passion and determination to make it there. Having been in the no. 2 spot for quite some time might be a good thing, but the team feels that they’re in for a rut if they remain stagnant.

Now that they’re the No. 1 team, the management just proved that their whopping $436,000 payout is worth it. Even though running back John White is out, Travon Van still came to the rescue contributing 103 yards and having three carries.

Meanwhile, elite receiver Brandon Zylstra recorded 10 passes over 108 yards. 45 of those were catches. Despite the fact that the Eskimos have a 1-3 red zone record, the coaching staff still thinks they can cling to the top 1 spot for a long time.

The Edmonton Eskimos currently has a 3-0 record and is most likely to have more winning streaks in the games to come. Their next game would be against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats who currently has a 0-4 losing streak.

Calgary Stampeders is Dethroned to No. 2 Spot

The Eskimos dethroned the Calgary Stampeders who is not at the no. 2 spot. This proved to be a great blow to quarterback Bo Mitchell who is vying for his 20th regular season win to no avail.

The main reason why they failed against the Alouettes is due to the fumbling of Jerome Messam which resulted in some defensive lapses. The offense might be grueling with determination, but it was frankly erratic so to speak.

Mitchell had a hilarious 379-yard throw, but it wasn’t the right field. To make things worse, the team’s defense enabled the Larks to have a 143-yard stat. Hopefully, the team makes up for it in their next game against the Roughriders.

Argonauts Down to 7th Spot, Redblacks Fall to 8th Spot

Then there are the Argonauts and the Redblacks who’ve had their tastes of misfortunes. The Toronto Argonauts who fell to the 7th spot after failing to maintain their no. 4 position had their tough time due to their late reaction time.

QB Ricky Ray only went full blast when everything was too late against Winnipeg. This pattern was the usual scene in their last two games prior.

Team work is what the team needs especially that Ray had taken a lot of beating – the elbow shot from Cory Johnson is a good example. Meanwhile, the Ottawa Redblacks seem to be still warming up as the season has just started.

It’s quite clear that the team is still adjusting their offense and keeping it in rhythm with their defense, as it’s going pretty ugly for them. The team is originally sitting cool in the 5th spot, but now they’ve fallen to the no. 8 spot.

They’re currently winless in their last four games, and their passing, throwing, and likelihood to panic are to blame. The Redblack’s next game would either be against the Alouettes or the Argonauts.

Latest CFL Betting Odds

The recently held game between the Eskimos and the Tiger-Cats had Edmonton being the favorite with betting odds of -3 for the Eskimos and +3 for the Tiger-Cats. They two are even with a -110 on all sports books. This is most likely to continue in the Eskimos’ favorite due to their winning streak.

Meanwhile, Calgary remains to be the favorite in their game against Saskatchewan this coming July 22. -11.5 to -10 odds on the Stampeders is imposed, giving the Roughriders a seeming advantage.

The Argonauts are going to battle it out against the Ottawa Redblacks on July 24. Toronto is the favorite in the game with a humble -1 to -2 betting odds, while the Redblacks has a +1 handicap.  Canada’s online betting offers is most likely to remain the same if there are no noticeable changes in the two’s power ranking.
