How the Fantasy League has Revolutionised Canadian Football

The CFL might have turned their nose up at the fantasy league, but at the end of the day, it is now gaining more steam than ever, especially in Canada. Without the NFL, it would seem that there would be no place for the fantasy league, so it’s interesting to see how the NFL’s policies and even the rule changes have impacted how the fantasy league is played. The reverse is sometimes true though as well, in the fact that fantasy football has changed the world of football in general.

The Demand for More Online Access

At one point, the only way you could watch a game would be if you attended in person. Things rapidly changed; technological innovation made it possible to watch sports on your television. Not long after, you had the rise of the casino industry. Games could then be played at a casino online with the click of a button, and helped bring about a positive force for change. People started to want more online entertainment options, or games that they could play in their spare time as opposed to being confined to a certain time in the day which often wasn’t convenient to them.

This gave birth to the fantasy football league. It changed the game, as it meant that an online system could be completely dependent on the physicality of football, without being fully functional as a standalone digital source of entertainment. On top of this, people could enjoy making trades and partake in the thrill of the game, even though there wasn’t a match being televised. With all of this in mind, one thing is certain.

With fantasy football increasing in popularity, people wanted to have more access to stats and facts regarding players and their performances so that they can make educated decisions regarding the choices that they make. This forced the football industry to use bigger metrics when tracking players, while also making the information readily available in a digital format.

A Viewer Friendly Experience for Everyone

The NFL have done a lot of things to try and revolutionise the game, and therefore the fantasy league. This has led to some changes in the way that football is watched in general. You can now see the statistics for the running yards of a player as the game is being played and this live data helps to make both the game better as well as the fantasy league.

Points and Fantasy Teams in the NFL

Fans love points, and the reason why is because it influences their fantasy team. Over the last decade, the NFL have gone out of their way to try and make additions and even rule changes, to make it easier for people to score points. The new rules make it harder to hit a QB with a clean hit and it’s becoming more of a passing league, too. Fantasy football has influenced this, and the NFL has gone on to inspire the CFL to make similar changes.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
