Huron Height Warrior DB now fighting for Laurier Golden Hawks

Laurier welcomes GTA commit to their Class of 2017.

Chase Szabo, a defensive back from Huron Heights Secondary School, already has a taste for the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks’ lifestyle and now he will have the chance to get a daily dose of it for the next couple years.

When Szabo was sitting in the Golden Hawks locker room for the first time, it was at Laurier’s homecoming. β€œI got the chance to be in the locker room for Head Coach Faulds’s pre-game speech, which was pretty special and I can see why the players play so hard for the team after that,” he said.

It was that moment that may have sealed the deal for the Szabo. β€œI love the culture and atmosphere they created. I think they’ve developed a winning culture at Laurier and the family atmosphere within the team,” he said.

This was not the first instance that Szabo had encountered the Golden Hawks. During Laurier’s spring camp, he had the chance to be coached by Coach Cameron. β€œIt was a great first-hand look at how he treats his defensive backs and the amount of knowledge he can provide for you,” he said.

Coming from Newmarket, Ontario, which is north of Toronto, the 6’2, 185lbs athlete played with the Huron Heights Warriors (York Regional Athletics Association) and the York Simcoe Bucs (the new York Region Lions). Szabo, who is interested in Economics or the BBA program, is a three-time YRAA champion (2013, 2015, 2016), a one-time OFSAA champion (2015) and a 2016 YRAA all-star.

β€œI would like to thank all the coaches at Huron for developing me into the player I am, as well as my teammates,” Szabo said. β€œI wouldn’t be where I am without them.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
