Hurricanes faces University of Vermont Catamounts

Charlottetown  – The AFL champion Holland College Hurricanes ended their 2013 season Sunday with a 36-0 loss to the University of Vermont Catamounts in a game played in Burlington, Vermont.

The Catamounts led 13-0 after the first quarter and 20-0 at the half on three touchdown passes by quarterback Jack Leclerc.

The ’Canes appeared to come to life in the third quarter, when they mounted a promising drive, only to have a Christian Hackney pass intercepted in the end zone.

The Catamounts added another major score in the third quarter, extending their lead to 27-0.

In the final quarter, Leclerc continued to pick the ’Canes defense apart, throwing his fifth touchdown pass of the day.

In the final minutes of play, Holland College threatened to score, but two dropped passes closed out the game.

For the Hurricanes, the game with the American college was an important step as the team sets goals for next season and beyond. The ’Canes have made three championship game appearances since the program’s establishment four years ago, and have won two AFL titles.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
