Huskies Sweep Week 10 AUS Football Player of the Week Awards


November 16, 2010 (HALIFAX, N.S.) – Receiver Ahmed Borhot, linebacker Brian Ridgeway and place kicker / punter Brett Lauther of the Saint Mary’s Huskies have been selected as the Atlantic University Sport Football Players of the Week for their respective performances in SMU’s 37-8 victory over the Acadia Axemen in the 2010 Subway Loney Bowl held at Huskies Stadium this past weekend in Halifax.

Receiver Ahmed Borhot of the CIS No. 9-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending November 14th, 2010. Borhot, a second-year student from Calgary, AB, caught a career-high nine passes for 202 yards and was awarded the Don Loney Memorial Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the 2010 Subway Loney Bowl this past weekend in Halifax. The Huskies defeated the Acadia Axemen 37-8 to advance to the Mitchell Bowl this Saturday against the Calgary Dinos.

Saint Mary’s linebacker Brian Ridgeway is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending November 14th, 2010. Ridgeway, a third-year student-athlete from Grande Prairie, AB, registered 9.5 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for 19 yards in losses and a 1.5 sacks in Saturday’s 37-8 win over the visiting Acadia Axemen in the 2010 Subway Loney Bowl. Brian, a transfer student from Simon Fraser University who led the Clan with 48.5 tackles in 2008, also broke up a pass and was credited with a QB hurry in the game as the CIS No. 9-ranked Huskies advance to Saturday’s Mitchell Bowl in Calgary with the victory. Ridgeway finished the regular season with 21.0 tackles, 4.0 sacks and six tackles for a loss.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Brett Lauther of the Saint Mary’s Huskies has been named the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week. Lauther, a first-year player from Truro, NS, was a perfect three-for-three in field goal attempts and made all four PAT’s to account for 13 of the Huskies’ points in Saturday’s 37-8 Subway Loney Bowl victory over the Acadia Axemen. Brett connected on field goals from 26, 19 and 20 yards respectively and also averaged 35.4 yards on his seven punts in the game. Lauther finished second in AUS regular season scoring this year with 54 points.
