British Columbia linebacker & receiver join OUA team’s 2015 class.

A pair of New Westminster Hyacks players will be commencing their CIS careers in Ontario this fall.

Dylan Musgrove and Hakan Williams have both committed to the Windsor Lancers.Ā  They will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

Dylan Musgrove

DYLAN MUSGROVE:

Musgrove, who is a 6ā€™2, 200 pound receiver from Surrey, spent five seasons with the Hyacks, who play in the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA).Ā  In 2014, he amassed 321 receiving yards on 15 receptions and scored three touchdowns.

“Dylan is a quality wide receiver/tight end who has solid hands and plays very physical,ā€ commented Lancers Head Coach Joe Dā€™Amore.Ā  ā€œWe were looking to add a guy who can mix it up and play in tight.ā€

ā€œWe think a year in our strength program will put him in that position.”

Hyacks Head Coach Farhan Lalji said Musgrove will be an asset to the Hyacks not just for his playmaking abilities, but also the intangibles heā€™ll bring to the team.

“Dylan made a great contribution for us throughout his career at NWSS and I think he has the potential to do the same at Windsor,ā€ expressed Lalji.Ā  Ā “His passion for the game is growing, and as a result he is just scratching the surface of how good he can be.ā€

ā€œHe is a well-raised young man and has the character to do what is necessary to excel at the next level.”

Musgrove will study Nursing with a major in health sciences while at Windsor.

For his part, the British Columbia receiver felt comfortable on his official visit to the OUA school and found everything he was looking for academically as well as football wise.

ā€œI chose Windsor because it was a great fit for me in the classroom, on the field and in the locker room,” added Musgrove. ā€œAfter talking to the coaches and players on my visit, I felt at home.ā€

ā€œBig thanks to the Hyack Football program and the coaching staff for preparing me for this big step in my football career and life in general.”

Hakan Williams commitment 1

HAKAN WILLIAMS:

The 6ā€™0, 220 pound linebacker from Vancouver transferred over to the Hyacks this past season, hoping to get one step further in fulfilling his gridiron dream to play at the post-secondary level.Ā  As a starter, he registered 45 tackles (ranked third on the team) and recorded five sacks.

Waterloo and Saskatchewan were also in the mix for Williams, but he ultimately chose the OUA school for several reasons.

ā€œWindsor was the right combination of academics and football for me, and having fellow Hyacks there was ultimately a factor,” explained the British Columbia linebacker of his decision. “It’s a place that can feel like home for the next five years.ā€

ā€œThanks to my parents for being so supportive throughout this process and to the Hyacks football program that has influenced me so greatly in such a short time.”

Hakan Williams commitment 2

Dā€™Amore sees great potential for Williams to make a significant impact on the Lancers defensive unit in future years.

ā€œHakan is a physical LB that plays very well sideline to sideline,” assessed the Lancers Head Coach.Ā  “He will compete for playing time on special teams early and he will grow into a solid WIL-linebacker.”

Lalji is thrilled that Williams has realized his gridiron dream and sees a bright future for him at the CIS level.

ā€œIt took a great deal of effort and sacrifice for Hakan to make the move to NWSS for his senior year, so it thrills me to see him get the chance to play at the next level,” commented Lalji.Ā  “He’s got great instincts for the game and a very good motor.ā€

ā€œHe also just loves football and will do what it takes to make an impact at Windsor.”

With Musgrove and Williamsā€™ commitments to the Lancers, that now brings the total number of Hyacks who have received football scholarships to post-secondary institutions to 30 in over a span of 12 years.Ā  Both players will be reunited with a former Hyack teammate once they join the Lancers as pivot Tommy Robertson signed with the OUA team in 2014.
