Hyland Makes Impressive First Start in CFL

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Former Eagle all-american defensive back David Hyland made his first career start at safety for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League this past Saturday. The Lions defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 16-14.

Hyland had an impressive day for his first CFL action. With his team trailing 10-0 early in the third quarter he intercepted a deep pass on the Lions own 37 yard line and returned it to mid-field. On the ensuing drive the Lions scored their only touchdown of the game to cut the lead to 10-7. The Lions would eventually win the game on a 19 yard field goal with 12 seconds left to improve their record to 5-8.

To go along with his interception, Hyland was tied for the team lead in tackles with six.

The Lions return to action on Monday Oct. 11 at Winnipeg.
