IFAF: Mills & Finch step up at Team World QB position (video)

After a morning workout on the Westlake High School practice field, the World team wrapped up its third day of preparations for the 2012 International Bowl with a two-hour workout at the school’s Chaparral Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With the majority of the playbook already installed the World Team spent most of the afternoon practice fine-tuning on both sides of the ball.

Quarterbacks coach Mike Faulds of Canada’s York University is impressed by the work his charges have put in to this point.

“It’s amazing,” Faulds said “We’re only six practices in and we’ve put in 90 percent of the offense.”

Both World Team quarterbacks hail from Canada and Faulds was very complimentary of his fellow countrymen’s work to this point.

“Both Jesse (Mills) and Will (Finch) have really stepped up,” Faulds said. Jesse’s a little bit older so he took command early on but Will has a phenomenal arm so he’s picking it up as well. I’ll add Drew Burko (Canada) into that mix too. The amazing thing about Will is he’s only 17 so he’ll be eligible to play in this a couple more times. He’s really impressive. ”

Others who have impressed on the offensive side of the ball include running backs Anthony Coombs of Canada and Shingo Maeda of Japan as well as Canadian receiver Tevaun Smith (a University of Iowa commit) and tight end Destiny Vaeao of American Samoa (a Washington State commit).

The World Team will hold its final day of two-a-days on Monday with a pair of practices at 9:30 am and 4 pm at Westlake High School.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
