7 Canadians added to Team World active roster from Development team (video)

Eight players from the IFAF Development Team have been rewarded for their hard work on practice this week by being elevated to the IFAF World Team to face the U.S. Under-19 National Team in the 2012 International Bowl on Wednesday. Seven of the players are Canadian.

The eight athletes impressed during four days of practices at Westlake High School in Austin, Texas, and will fill the remaining spots on the 50-man IFAF World Team roster.

“We spent a great deal of time evaluating the players and our needs and our options,” said IFAF World Team head coach GREG MARSHALL. “We feel we have selected a group of players from the Development Team who are able to help us now and will be an asset to the IFAF World Team as we face Team USA.”

Linebacker CHRIS MULUMBA (5th picture #2 white) enjoyed a successful 2011 season for the Kent School in Connecticut and on Wednesday morning before playing in the International Bowl he will commit his college football future to the University of Maine.

Two players from Canadian college football (CIS) have stepped up to the World Team. University of Calgary linebacker TANNER DOLL, who will also be the team’s long snapper, and quarterback DREW BURKO (Top picture #13 team world) of the University of Saskatchewan.

Players who are coming off a successful high school season are fullback TOM MARSHALL (3rd picture – fullback) of the Mother Teresa Spartans / Team Ontario West and defensive end ADAM MELANSON (second picture – #55 dark blue) who started last year for the Horton Griffins / Team Nova Scotia, and Team Ontario East captain, offensive lineman PETER GODBER (4th picture – red #50) from St Andrews College.

Canadian New Mexico Military Institute running back MAX THOMPSON (bottom picture) recorded 227 total yards in a single game last season, including 140 rushing yards, 14 receiving yards and a touchdown and returned three kickoffs for 73 yards.

Offensive lineman COSMO ANDERS plays for the Raiffeisen Vikings of Vienna and helped Austria to win the 2011 European Junior Championship this summer.

Six places were reserved on the IFAF World Team roster for Development Team players to fill and an additional two spots opened up when third-year linebacker DAVID KATINA from American Samoa suffered a knee injury and Georgia Tech-bound offensive lineman ADAM GOTSIS from Australia was declared non-eligible by the NCAA.
