INTERNATIONAL TEAMS FROM CANADA, MEXICO AND PANAMA TASTE VICTORY AT POP WARNER SUPER BOWL


Teams from Canada, Mexico and Panama all tasted victory this week at the 55th annual Pop Warner Super Bowl being played at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida.

The rugged running of the Marlins from Panama overcame the speed of Tec CEM from Mexico in a 34-6 win on the first day of International Friendship Bowl games action as the youngsters enjoyed sunny 74 degrees weather in Florida. The smallest player from Tec Puebla returned a punt 84 yards for a touchdown as the other participating Mexican team overcame Team Ontario from Canada 20-6. The Canadian’s midgets then turned a 20-13 halftime lead over Mid-America from St Louis into a 42-13 win in the unlimited category.

The teams return to action on Thursday and Saturday and have also been busy off the field. In addition to taking part in Pop Warner-organized activities, they enjoyed a tour of the University of South Florida athletic facilities with long-time Global Football associate and USF quarterbacks coach Peter Vaas.

On Friday the international teams will take part in a speed clinic organized by Tom Shaw, who has worked with the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints and works with potential draft picks training for the combine and veteran NFL players looking to stay in shape. They will also attend the Pop Warner Party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The teams from Canada, Mexico and Panama have joined 64 teams and more than 300 dance and cheer squads from across the United States from December 3-10. This is the second year that Global Football has brought international teams to ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex to take part in the event and the total number of team members and followers has risen 40% from 2010.
