CEGEP defensive end commits to OUA team.

A CEGEP defensive standout is going to move provinces and join the CISā€™ New Kids on the Block.

Julien-Patrice Kafo is the latest recruit to join the OUAā€™s Carleton Ravens.Ā  The 6ā€™4, 245 pound defensive end from Mount Tremblant, Quebec comes to the Ravens after a successful CEGEP Division 1 career with Vanier Cheetahs.

With Kafoā€™s commitment, it signifies a major goal of the future recruitment drives as well as the depth on both offensive and defensive units for the Ravens.

ā€œGetting someone of Julienā€™s caliber is an amazing step for our program,ā€ commented Ravens Head Coach Steve Sumarah after Kafoā€™s commitment.Ā  ā€œWe knew the first year recruiting class was going to be the basis of the program but for us to be able to compete at the highest level our 2014 and 2015 classes had to be as good or better.ā€

ā€œJulien is a huge part of the 2014 class.Ā  We felt we needed more depth on our defensive line and the credentials that he brings are second to none in the country.ā€

Darrell Adams, Ravens Defensive Line and Strength & Conditioning Coach, had a heavy hand in recruiting Kafo to the OUA team.Ā  Adams said that the Cheetahs defensive standout is a rare gem and possesses a lot of skill, talent and intangibles which will be assets to the Ravens.

ā€œJulien is a one of a kind talent,ā€ assessed Adams.Ā  ā€œHe has the ability to efficiently stop the run and rush the passer. ā€œ

ā€œHe has all the tools and more importantly the right attitude necessary to become an all-star at this level and potentially the next.Ā  He has played against good competition in CEGEP and will provide an instant spark to our Defensive Line, defense and team.Ā  Heā€™s a quiet kid with a great work ethic and is excited to come to Carleton and be a major building block in the success of the program moving forward.Ā  I look forward to working with him both on the field and in the weight room.ā€

It was his relationship with Adams and the football program that led the CEGEP defensive back to choose the Ravens as his next gridiron home.

“IĀ committed to Carleton first because of the great relationship I have with Coach Darrell Adams, Ā the Defensive Line Coach,” explained Kafo of his decision. Ā “Also, I think all the coaches that recruited me have been great to me, have shown me tremendous respect and made me feel special.”

“But when I visited Carleton, I had that feeling of this is a place where I would want to spend my next five years.”

During the 2012 season with the Cheetahs, Kafo registered 27.5 tackles, Ā 4 TFLs, recorded five sacks and two batted down passes!Previous to the Cheetahs, Kafo played high school football for Polyvalente de Monts. Academically, the Quebec defensive end will study business at the Ottawa school.
