Ironmen end season in conference final

Everything was playing out perfectly; the Conference Finals, the Rogers Center, the arch rival Essex Ravens, and the climb out of OVFL political disparity. But somewhere along the line someone forgot to inform the Ravens of the script as they cut out legs of the Ironmen’s hopes of an OVFL championship defeating them 35-18 in Toronto on Sunday night.

The Ironmen offence came out of the gate strong with hard unning by RB’s Kotar and Silvestri putting up the first major for an early 7-0 lead. But Essex offence proved too much for the stingy Ironmen defence who were unable to stop the constant pounding of RB’s Wolcott and Crawford, and could not find the answer to contain AllStar QB Austin Kennedy. The Ironmen offence didnt do themselves any favours by throwing an interception which was run back 75 yards for a TD and appeared to be the games turning point.
However, the Ironmen kept it close with big plays by Mike Hayes, Steve Ventresca and Alex Bourgeios, but with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter the Ravens managed to punch in another TD on the ground to put them up 28-18. Essex added another insignificant TD after the Ironmen had already accepted the inevitable. ” I’m proud of all our players and staff who fought hard both on and off the field during this difficult season” commented coach Underhill. ” We knew what we had to do to win, but we did not accomplish what we set out to do. Essex is an exceptional football team and will represent the West well in Ottawa”.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
