Pride & excellence

CEGEP defensive standout joins RSEQ team’s 2014 class

Becoming part of a team which makes excellence a staple of their program was crucial in a CEGEP standout’s decision to commit to a CIS school.

Recently, Vincent Jacques finally made his choice.Β  The 5’9, 190 pound halfback and SAM linebacker will be part of the Montreal Carabins come the 2014 RSEQ season.

β€œI chose the University of Montreal for several reasons,” explained Jacques of his decision.Β  β€œLater, I want to have my own gym to develop athletes.”

β€œThe university offers the program of Kinesiology, then academic point of view I was packed. Secondly, the fact that the University is near is an advantage to not have to relocate. When I did my visit, there was a great sense of family that hovered with the team. I spoke to former teammates who are now Carabins and they all told me the same thing: “the team becomes more united and guys want to fight for the other!”

By joining the Carabins, the Quebec defensive standout will get the opportunity to with a great coach who specializes in his position.

β€œWhat really made me choose MontrΓ©al is due to the football program,” commented Jacques.Β  β€œIt is a program of excellence in the Canada.”

β€œFor a player who wants to advance and win, you want to fight for a position with players better than you.Β  The level of defensive back talent does not fail and I want to be part of this elite group. The coaching staff is also appealing.Β  When your Head Coach (Danny Maciocia) has already coached professionally, you trust in what he did and it gives you confidence to you also. The real reason why I chose Montreal is because Fabrice Raymond, who will be my coach at my position, will destroy and rebuild me in a great CIS player. It is the only coach who gave me an idea of how he was going to coach defensive backs and I really liked it. The group will be aggressive and very talented thanks to him.Β Other reasons that led me to commit in Montreal was to win a Vanier Cup, beat Laval, become a player of excellence and have the pride to wear the uniform of the Carabins for the next years ”

Jacques comes to the Carabins after completing a stint with CEGEP Division 1 team, Edouard-Montpetit Lynx.Β  This past season, he registered 43 tackles, 28 solo tackles, five tackles for a loss, three picks, two knockdowns, a 25 yard touchdown catch, and amassed 77 yards on 4 kick returns.

Additionally, the Quebec defensive standout has previously suited up for CEGEP Division 2 team Saint-Jean sur Richelieu Geants, St. Bruno Barons (midget) and Boucherville Grizzlies (mosquito to bantam)
