University of Alberta Athletics invites applications for the position of Head Coach of the Golden Bears Football program. Athletics is searching for a Head Coach capable of building and sustaining a high performance program; who has the ability to attract and retain the best football student-athletes in Canada; and who has the leadership skills required elevate a program with a rich history and tradition to a championship contending program in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS). The successful candidate will be able to clearly articulate a vision for the successful operation of a high performance university football program at the University of Alberta. Creative and innovative approaches to the delivery of the program will be given particular attention by the search committee.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach will be responsible for all duties associated with the successful operation of a highly competitive university football program inclusive of activities related to coaching, teaching, and service.
Coaching will involve traditional coaching duties, but will also include program planning, development and logistics, technical research and development, financial management and fund raising, sport development inclusive of summer sport camps and Golden Bears Football Academy, alumni development, recruitment and retention of top-level student-athletes, public relations and communications, athlete evaluation, and the mentorship of developing coaches. In addition, the Head Coach must at all times ensure compliance with Canada West Regional Association and Canadian Interuniversity Sport rules and regulations.
Teaching responsibilities may include participation in undergraduate and graduate (Masterβs of Coaching program) programs including classroom teaching, personal interactions with and supervising of students. The Head Coach must also support the academic success of student-athletes, which is a high priority at the University of Alberta.
Service responsibilities include the provision of service to the coaching community, particularly at the Canada West and Canadian Interuniversity Sport level and as required to Football Alberta and Football Canada. They also include participation in the governance of the University and the Faculty, and dissemination of knowledge to the football community by making available the coachβs expertise and knowledge.
The successful candidate will possess a university degree and credentials appropriate to high performance coaching in the sport of football. A minimum of three (3) years experience as a CIS Head or Assistant Coach is preferred.
The position is a two-year rolling contract appointment, beginning January 1, 2013, or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and a comprehensive benefits package is provided.
