Jr. Riders extinct

The Ottawa Jr. Riders have decided to pack it in.

The Quebec Junior Football League (QJFL) team announced earlier this week that it will cease operations.

A product of the Jr. Redskins team, the Jr. Riders have competed in the league for 16 seasons and won seven championships during their existence.

Some of the reasons why the team has come to this tough decision have to do with the continual stretching of the organization’s resources (i.e. some coaches have been instructing upwards of three teams) and focusing their attention and to the younger aged teams. The Jr. Riders were under the Myers Riders organization which fields teams in both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and National Capital Amateur Football League (NCAFA)

During a recent league meeting, President Sandy Ruckstuhl unsuccessfully proposed an idea that QJFL league would join forces with the Canadian Junior Football League (QJFL) and become a fourth conference.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
