JV Cougars keep record perfect


The Chatham-Kent Cougars used three long touchdowns to beat the Burlington Stampeders 27- 12 on Sunday in the Ontario Football Conference’s junior varsity division.

Clark Green kicked field goals of 26 and 31 yards as Cougars improved to 2-0.

Blayne Bechard scored on a 70-yard run in the first quarter for a 10-0 lead.

Jason Laprise added a 50-yard rushing TD after the Stampeders scored for a 20-6 halftime lead.

Eric Frappier returned a punt for a 72-yard TD in the third quarter.

Green kicked all three extra points and punted three times for a 40.3-yard average.

Bechard finished with 123 yards on nine carries, Laprise ran six times for 87 yards, and Tanner Emery had 39 rushing yards and 43 receiving yards. Quarterback Jon Ashby was 2-of- 5 for 58 yards.

Frappier had two interceptions and three tackles, Cam Labute made six tackles and an interception, Mike Price had three tackles and an interception, Eric DeMars had three tackles and a fumble recovery, Jordan Deneau made five tackles and Zach Goetenburg added four.

VARSITY: The Cougars had a bye. They’re off until this Sunday when the Hamilton Wentworth Panthers visit the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex at 4:30 p.m.

PEEWEES: The Cougars allowed only one first down and beat the Mississauga Rattlers 45-0 on Sunday for their second straight shutout in the Ontario Football Conference.

Kelton Evans threw touchdown passes to Ross Krieger and Clayton Shreve as the Cougars improved to 2-0 with a road win. Krieger also scored from 67 yards out on a reverse.

Jake Anderson opened the scoring with an interception return for a TD. He also scored on a punt return for a 33-0 halftime lead.

Nolan Ball scored on a 16-yard run and Tanner Shuian returned an interception for a touchdown. Owen Dorssers kicked three extra points.

BANTAMS:

Cougars quarterback John McCauley threw two touchdowns to Jamie Lovell in a 30-0 win over the York Simcoe Bucs on Sunday at the Chatham- Kent Community Athletic Complex.

Lovell caught TD passes of 26 and eight yards.

Dalton Shuian ran for a three-yard TD and Braydon McTavish returned an interception for a 51-yard TD.

McCauley was 11-of-14 for 138 yards. He also threw to Marcus Shadd for a two-point convert.

Jake Myers kicked a 21-yard field goal and one extra point. Shuian ran 16 times for 105 yards.

Austin Kerr made 11 tackles, McTavish had nine and Keenan Clark eight. Shuian recovered a fumble.
