
The Varsity Predators shut out the visiting London Thunderbirds Saturday with a strong defensive showing and dominating offense, for a 56-0 win at Knight-Newbrough Field in Waterloo.
The Predators held the opposition to a total of 147 yards with just 34 yards passing and a 118 yards rushing on the day. Patrick Gerrie led the team with five tackles, one assisted tackle and one QB sack. Fumble recoveries by Brandon Seip, Spencer Henderson and Haram Kang and interceptions by Jordan Stirling and Andrew McWhinney capped off an overall strong defensive team effort.
The Predators offence racked up a total of 526 yards, with 125 yards rushing and a massive aerial assault of 417 yards in the air. QB James Fracas went 18 for 23 in pass completions for 389 yards and six touchdowns in the air. Receiver Karsten Beney (picture) was Fracasβ favourite target, with five receptions for 194 yards, and three touchdowns.
Dan Silvestri led the Predatorsβ rushing game in yardarge with 43 yards and a touchdown to add to his first major on a passing play. Nate Walker and Spencer Fleming, with six and five carries respectively, added to the overall running game.
Ronnie Pfeffer punctuated the Predatorsβ offensive tally with a 47-yard field goal to seal the deal for the Predators, having missed a similar attempt earlier for 46 yards. Pfeffer was perfect in his point-after attempts, going seven for seven on the day.
The Varsity Predators will be looking to put a lock on at least second place in regular season play when they host the third-place Clarington Knights July 9.
