Kicker chooses hometown team, commits to Laval

Vainer Cup champions attract another commit to their 2017 class.

Sometimes kickers go under the radar, but not David Côté, a kicker from Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy (CNDF), who will be bringing his kicking talents to one of U Sports best football teams after committing to the Laval Rouge et Or.

Côté is already familiar with Québec City, which acts as his hometown and current place of residence. He has spent six years playing football in this city and will get another five years in with the Rouge et Or. Côté was drawn to Laval because of the quality of the football facilities, the proximity of the school and the coaching staff.

“I think they are one of the best coaching staffs in Canada. They have a lot of experience and the success of the team year after year shows their talent,” he said.

Côté, who also punts, is a towering 6’4, 230lbs. He is planning on pursuing a degree in physical education teaching. He began his football career with the Arsenal de l’Académie Saint-Louis (RSEQ Juvénile Division 1), winning the league championship with the team in 2012. While playing with the Arsenal, he was named as a league all-start three times and was the Arsenal’s MVP in his first two years with the team.

When he joined the Notre-Dame du CNDF (RSEQ Division 1), Côté was named to the Division 1 All-Star team and was named as the special team’s MVP in his rookie year. In his second year, he received another all-star honour. This season, he helped his team to a Bol D’Or championship.
