Kitchener recruit “would fit in well” at Laurier (VIDEO)

Kitchener kicker/punter joins OUA team’s 2016 class.

Nathan McLean believes he will blend in well at his new gridiron home.

Recently, the 6’2, 170 pound kicker/punter from Kitchener, Ontario committed to Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.  McLean will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

Ultimately, the combination of both football and academics were made the Golden Hawks perfect fit for McLean.

“I committed to Laurier since it is a local school with a reputable business program,” elaborated the Ontario kicker/punter.  “I plan to enroll in business administration for next fall.”

“Their football team has had increasing success in recent years and I feel like I would fit well within the program. I’ve worked with the receivers coach Mark Surya over the summer and I plan to do the same with the kicking coach Darcy Segin next summer.”

McLean completed his career with St. Mary’s Eagles of the Waterloo County Secondary School Athletic Association (WCSSAA).

Additionally, he suited up for the Cambridge Lions of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).  McLean led the league in multiple categories as he averaged 61.2 yards per kick and eight field goals which averaged 27.6 yards per kick this past summer.

On offence with the Lions, McLean amassed 211 yards on 13 receptions as well as 53 yards on 10 carries.

Among the honours he has received in his career include WCSSAA and OVFL All-Star selections.
