Lancers battle No.7 Gryphons Labour Day

WINDSOR, Ont.- The Windsor Lancers men’s football team will look for their second win a row this Labour Day Monday when they battle the CIS No. 7 ranked Guelph Gryphons.

The Lancers began the season with a dominant 78-11 victory over the Waterloo Warriors last Sunday at Alumni Field. Fourth-year quarterback Austin Kennedyguided Windsor’s potent offence by completing 24 of his 28 passes for 335 passing yards and six touchdowns, tying the team record for the second year in a row on opening day.  The hometown native also notched 108 rushing yards and one touchdown on the run, earning himself OUA offensive player of the week honours.

Evan Pszczonak grabbed three touchdown receptions, also tying a Lancers single-game record, and totalled six catches for 102 yards.  Mitch Dender rushed for 111 yards on 13 carries.
The Lancers will look to maintain their explosive offence against a gritty Gryphons defence that held Laurier to a minimal 71 yards of total offence in their 21-7 opening day triumph. This included putting their opponent in the red on the ground, as Laurier had a net rushing total of -1.

Rookie runningback, John Augustine racked up 127 yards on the ground in his first conference outing, while Gryphons pivot Jazz Lindsey tallied 117 yards in the air with one passing touchdown as well as an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

The Lancers and Gryphons also met at Alumni Field in the second week of regular season play in 2012, when Guelph took home a 28-9 win, allowing no Lancer touchdowns in the process.

Monday’s game is set to kick-off at 1:00 p.m.
