Lancers look to upset rival Mustangs on Saturday night on Alumni Field

The Lancer Football program returns home this Saturday night to take on their rivals from London, the #5 ranked Western Mustangs at Alumni Field.

After splitting their last two games on the road, Windsor will look to improve on their 1-2 record against the No. 5 ranked Mustangs (2-1).

Last week the Lancers dropped a 40-7 decision to the defending Vanier Cup Champion Queen’s Gaels. Rookie quarterback Austin Kennedy saw his first taste of OUA action, and connected with Nick Baldassi for his first CIS touchdown pass.

Kennedy’s play was a bright spot for Windsor as the quarterback finished the game 15 of 24 passing for 138 yards and a touchdown.

Starting quarterback Sam Malian missed Sunday’s game at Queen’s due to injury and is currently listed as day to day. Rookie pivot Austin Kennedy, who played very well in defeat against Queen’s, could also see time on Saturday.

If the Lancers are to rebound this weekend against the fifth ranked Mustangs, they will have to re-establish their running game. Against the Gaels, the Lancers ran for only 37 yards. The tandem of Paul Lefaive and Kamar Anglin will be depended on to rush the ball and free up the deep threat.

Windsor will try to better their effort from last year’s game against the Mustangs which saw them fall to Western on Alumni Field. The Mustangs are fresh off of a 50-19 victory against the McMaster Marauders last week.

In addition to an improved running game, the Lancer defence will need to put pressure on Western quarterback Don Marshall who finished with 125 yards and 59 rushing and three touchdowns in the Mustangs win against MAC.

Matt Bucknor and Brad Adams will look to shut Marshall down after strong individual performances last week. Both finished with 2 solo tackles and 7 assisted tackles to lead the Lancers defensively.

Kick-off is set for 7:05pm at Alumni Field following a ceremonial kick-off by University of Windsor President Dr. Alan Wildeman. Tickets for the game are still available and can purchased at the gate on game day. Doors open at 5:30pm.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
