Tyler Mackenzie has been playing football since grade 10 for St. Joseph Lasers of the Windsor and Essex County Secondary School Athletic Association (WECSSAA).

“In Grade 10, I immediately gained an interest in playing back then and a love for the game to this day,” adds Tyler, who was recently selected as a WECSSAA All-Star. . “I love everything about the game from the workouts and practices to games itself and most importantly the bond you gain with teammates.”

This upcoming summer, the Lasers standout hopes to play for the Essex Ravens of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

Tyler cited his parents as major influences in his life.

“Everything they’ve done for me is amazing and something I’ll probably never be able to repay them for,” says Tyler.   “I’ll always be forever thankful with the things they’ve helped me with throughout my life.

The lineman also says his coach Dave Fuerth has been instrumental in his career.

“He came to St. Joes in 2011 after a tough 1-5 season and pushed all of us and we won our first football championship in school history, all the players gained a good relationship with him,” says the Lasers standout.  “He really pushed me to show my best, whether it was through workouts, the tough conditioning days, practices or games.”

“He’s a great coach and I’m very glad I got the chance to play for him.

Currently Tyler is working out all he can in order to be ready should a CIS opportunity comes up. While he is considering University of Windsor, he is planning on attending St. Claire’s College.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
