Lauréats DB joins the Sherbrooke Vert & Or

Vert & Or being in another Québec commit to their Class of 2017.

Olivier Choquette, a corner from Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe, had access to some insider information before choosing to extend his career with the University of Sherbrooke Vert & Or.

While figuring out what school to attend, Choquette, who played for Les Lauréats Cégep de St-Hyacinthe (RSEQ Division 3), got some helpful advice from his head coach and former Vert & Or player, Yan Genest. “He tells me that Sherbrooke was a very good choice for me. I already know some people there. I decided to go there because this team is good about values,” he said.

“I think the coaches can bring me a lot of things and they’re going to help me be a better defensive back,” Choquette added. “The coach’s values are the same as mine. Since I met the coaches, I know that I’m going to be one of the team.”

Choquette also noted the sports complex and the school’s academic and football reputation as reasons for his commitment. He is interested in taking the Physical Education and Primary school program.

Prior to playing as a defensive back with Saint-Hyacinthe, the 5’7, 152lbs corner and safety suited up as a receiver for Les Voltigeurs du Cégep de Drummondville (RSEQ Division 3). In high school, the product of Chambly, Quéebc, which is south-east of Montréal, played with Les Castors de Marieville. He started playing at the age of five and spent most of his career with Les Baron de St-Bruno until he reached high school.

In his final year of high school, Choquette was named as the team’s offensive MVP. In 2015 and in 2016, he was an RSEQ all-star and team MVP after only two years as a defensive back.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
