Laurier adds two Ontario commits and out out-of-province commit to their 2018 class.
When it came time to chose a school, defensive linemen Tyler Eckert from St. Thomas More Collegiate and Michael Asma from AB Lucas Secondary School felt that their development was best put in the hands of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks’ coaches.
Linebacker Nick Samis from Georgetown District High School will also be joining Laurier.
Tyler Eckert
It will be a long plane ride to southern Ontario, but it’s one Tyler Eckert from Burnaby, BC, is more than willing to take. “I picked Laurier because of the environment I felt from the school and all the positive stories I hear about it. It’s great (for) academics and football,” Eckert said. “Laurier’s coaching staff is a staff I know that will help me grow as a man as well as a player.”
The 6’1, 220lbs defensive end spent five years with the STMC Knights (BCSSFA). In 2013, he won a provincial championship while in grade eight. Last season he was named as a Knights’ team MVP. Eckert will be taking a general arts in his first year.
Michael Asma
When it came to his schooling, Michael Asma chose to look outside of his hometown of London, Ontario. His search ended when he found Laurier. “Great coaching staff, reputable school and program, nice team members, small campus, not too far from home,” Asma said as to why he committed. “Cannot wait to work with the coaches.”
Standing at 6’1, 225lbs, the defensive end played for five years with the AB Lucas Vikings (TVRA). He was a city all-star in 2017. He is interested in either economics or business.
Long list of great @ABLucasVikings student athletes continues at @LaurierFootball with the addition of Michael Asma. @ABLucas_Sports alumni Tristan Arndt, Scott Hutter, Brandon Calver and Eric Guiltinan are all happy with your decision. pic.twitter.com/Pf4JWZ7Vl6

Nick Samis
Nick Samis stands at 6’0, 225lbs. Hailing from Georgetown, Ontario, he played with the Georgetown Rebels (Halton Public Tier 1) and the North Halton Crimson Tide. He participated in the 2017 Fox 40 Prospect Challenge in Hamilton, Ontario.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
