Laurier gets ready to take on guelph

The Hawks competed for 60 minutes for the first time this season and were rewarded with a 68-14 victory versus the York Lions.

WLU rushed for close to 300 yards with seven different ball carriers getting involved. Total offence was just less than 500 yards. The defence held the Lions to just over 100 net yards. Special teams blocked a punt and recovered the ball in the end zone. All three phases were solid on this day.

Evan Pawliuk was at the helm in the first half and was very efficient, completing 9 of 13 passes and 2 TD’s. Rashad La Touche was the leading rusher with 78 yards and copped the offensive player of the game honors. β€˜D’ player of the game was DE Spencer Troop (with four tackles and a sack) and specialist was Mitchell Bosch with a punt block for a TD.

Everyone got in the game in the second half and there were some terrific performances – showing some solid depth in our program. Dan Daigle played the entire half at QB, Bobby Troop played FB, Felix Odum played some corner and WR, Luke Thompson played FS, Drew Silverstein on the OL, Ben Ivaney at DE and Drew Galpin and Jeremy Brecevic got some significant minutes at LB.

Bad news is that the Hawks have lost WR Ryan Thompson for the season with a knee injury.

Guelph is next and they are off to a good start at 3-1. They have defeated Toronto, York and Queens and played Western tough this week at their Homecoming. Nick Fitzgibbons at TB and Chris Rossetti at QB are the players to watch. A tough defensive front is led by Adam Dunk. Coach Kevin MacNeill returns as the d-coordinator. The Gryphs will be a good challenge for the Hawks and the Hawks will be prepared to do battle!

The Hawks lost a family member and one of our all-time great OL, Art Lestins (’72). There will be a memorial for Artie on Saturday in his hometown of London, ON. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Lestins family!

Homecoming: I can feel it. So special; can’t wait to re-connect with so many!

Once a Hawk always a Hawk,

-Coach Jeff
