Laurier grad Chima Ihekwoaba released by Detroit lions

It has been reported that Chima Ihekwoaba was released by the Detroit lions on Monday.

The Burlington, Ontario native played his college ball at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The 6-4, 260-pounder missed most of last season with a shoulder injury, but ran a 4.78-second time in the 40-yard dash, did 23 reps on the bench press (225-pounds), and displayed a 41″ vertical jump at the CFL’s “evaluation camp” in March.

Chima was picked 14th overall in the 2010 CFL draft by the Montreal Alouettes. He can sign with the club immediately or explore other NFL, UFL options. He clears NFL waivers in 10 days.
