Laval dominates Bishop’s with over 300 yards rushing (stats)

SΓ©bastien LΓ©vesque ran for 131 yards and two touchdowns as the No. 3-ranked Laval Rouge et Or defeated the Bishop’s Gaiters, 57-9, on Sunday afternoon in Quebec City. The Rouge et Or led 19-9 at halftime, but pulled away with four touchdowns in the third quarter.

Laval also got rushing touchdowns from Charles Lambert and Maxime Boutin, while Guillaume Rioux scored on a 61-yard pass in the fourth quarter, and Christian Lavaud ran an interception back 35 yards for a score. Four field goals and a single by Boris Bede, along with a safety touch, rounded out Laval’s scoring.

The Bishop’s scoring came courtesy of a four-yard pass from Jordan Heather (Oromocto, N.B.) to Alexander Fox (Montreal West, Que.) in the second quarter, and singles by Mathieu Paquette (Magog, Que.) and O’Shane Daley (Scarborough, Ont.)

For Laval, Bruno Prud’homme went 15-for-26 for 251 yards with a touchdown. Guillaume Rioux was the Rouge et Or’s leading receiver, with 115 yards on four catches. LΓ©vesque led Laval on the ground, while Maxime Boutin had one carry for 83 yards.

For Bishop’s, Jordan Heather went 11-for-29 for 93 yards with one touchdown and an interception. Shane McDonald came on in relief in the last play of the third quarter, and went 7-for-14 for 96 yards. Fox was the Gaiters’ leading receiver, with five catches for 39 yards.
Defensively, Harrison Maloney led the Gaiters with seven tackles, including a sack and a forced fumble. O’Shane Daley made a game-high 7.5 tackles. Lavaud led the Laval defence with his interception return touchdown and three knockdowns.

The loss means that, in order to make the playoffs, the Gaiters must win their last two games and Concordia must both of theirs.

With the win, Laval (6-1) moves back into a share of first place, and can clinch the league pennant next week as they host Sherbrooke on Sunday, October 23. The Gaiters (2-5) are next in action on Saturday, October 22, as they host McGill (0-7).
