Laval holds on for close victory in Montreal (stats & video-french)

MONTREAL – Fourth year wide receiver Julian Feoli Gudino (San José, Costa Rica) made four catches for 112 yards including the game winning 10-yard touchdown reception with 4:17 to play in the third quarter as the no. 1 ranked Laval Rouge et Or came from behind to defeat the no. 7 Montreal Carabins 19-12 in Quebec University Football League (QUFL) action on Saturday.

Playing in front of a sold-out crowd of 5166 fans on their home turf of CEPSUM Stadium, the Carabins came out gunning for the defending conference champions and took a 10-3 lead midway through the second quarter when pivot Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze (Repentigny, Que.) hooked up with Djems Kouamé (Montreal) on a 19-yard touchdown toss with 8:04 to play in the half.

After a rouge extended Montreal’s lead to 11-3, veteran kicker Christopher Milo (Montreal) began the Laval comeback with a 30-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining in the opening half.

The Carabins conceded a safety early in the second half cutting their advantage to three points.
At 10:43 of the third period, Laval quarterback Bruno Prud’homme (Lasalle, Que.) found Feoli Guidino open for a 10-yard score to give Laval the lead for good. Prud’homme would finish the game completed 10 of the 17 passes he attemped for 128 yards and a touchdown, while Nadeau-Piuze finished the contest 20 of 41 for 245 yards with a touchdown and one interception.

For the second straight game, Montreal running back Rotrand Sené was held to 110 yards or less in rushing, completing the afternoon with just 97 yards on 22 carries.

With the win, the Rouge et Or remain undefeated, improving their record to 6-0 while the Carabins drop to third place in the Quebec University Football League (QUFL) with a 4-2 record.
Laval will put its perfect record on the line next Sunday (October 17) when they host the second place Bishop’s Gaiters (5-1) at PEPS Stadium, while Montreal takes on the winless McGill Redmen (0-6) at Percival Molson Stadium on Saturday.
