Sebastien Levesque scored the lone touchdown as the top-ranked Laval Rouge et Or held off the McGill Redmen 12-4 in Canadian university football action Sunday. The win was Laval’s 17th consecutive victory in front of 14,316 spectators. Another interesting stat is that it was Laval’s 46th consecutive victory at home – a CIS record – The Rouge et or have not lost at home since September 19, 2004, when they suffered 14-13 loss against Montreal.
Levesque ran in two yards for the TD after an eight-play, 74-yard drive in the first quarter to give Laval a 7-0 lead.
The game featured three team safeties, with Laval (4-0) earning one to take a 9-0 halftime lead.
Glen Constantin Laval was not completely satisfied with the his team Sunday. “It’s a disappointing performance. We had three serious injuries on the offensive line, which did not help.”
The Redmen (0-4) offence was shut out with their only scores coming on two team safeties of their own.
In the second quarter Julien Feoli-Gudino became the second leading receiver in the history of Canadian Interuniversity Sport in terms of numbers of receptions with 207. It was his fourth of the match and he ended the game with 10 catches for 61 yards.
Boris Bede kicked in a 33-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring for the Rouge et Or.
Laval’s Bruno Prud’Homme went 22 for 28 for 217 yards while McGill’s Jonathan Collin and Ryne Bondy combined for 181 yards and two interceptions.
