LB Amiot believes football as made him ‘a better person’

When Ɖtienne Amiot was young, he practically lived and breathed the game of football, so it was only a matter of time before football returned the attention he gave it.

Amiot has been in and around the game for seven years, however he was introduced to the sport many years prior. As a kid, he used to play football with his friends at the park. When he was in front of a TV, he watched the NFL and CFL. He also had a chance to view the Laval Rouge et Or in person. With this constant engagement, it is little wonder that football has consumed his life.

ā€œFootball brings me a lot in many (aspects) of my life, discipline, team work, respect, relationships. It means a lot to me,ā€ Amiot said. ā€œI think it has made me a better person.ā€

In football, he cited his head coach at SĆ©minaire St-Francois, Luc Savoie, as having the most impact on him. ā€œRespect, rigor, hard work to get what you want and never give up are the values that I learned in football from Coach Savoie and these will serve me in many aspects of my life,ā€ Amiot said.

Amiot has also been fortunate enough to have a strong and supportive network behind him. He said he is surrounded by good people in his family, friends, teachers and coaches. He said he has been inspired and influenced by a few of all these people.

When Amiot takes to the field, he lets the action encompass him. ā€œI love being in the heart of the action,ā€ the linebacker said. He added that anticipating the game, which makes him useful to his team, is an element that he loves about his position.

While he doesnā€™t model his game after any player specifically, he is inspired by Antony Auclair. The former Laval Rouge et Or tight end currently plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Amiot said Auclair is an inspiration because he worked hard to make it to the NFL.

When asked to evaluate his game, Amiot said that he believes his speed and ability to read the game gives him a competitive edge. However, he said that, ā€œI do not like to compare myself to others. I think that each has a specific quality that can be useful to the team in specific situations.ā€

Set to join the Champlain College Lennoxville Cougars (RSEQ Division 1) this season, Amiot is ready for the challenge of collĆ©gial football. ā€œAs a rookie on this team, I will do my best to play the role that the coaches will entrust me. I will continue to play with intensity as I have always done in order to help my team win,ā€ he said.

While at Champlain College, Amiot plans on taking social sciences, commerce profile. His goal is to obtain a bachelorā€™s degree in business administration and to play football for as long as he can. In the near future, he said he is focusing on the upcoming season. ā€œI will work hard to help my team achieve success,ā€ he added.

Before joining the Cougars, Amiot spent his high school days with CFC50 Le Blizzard du SĆ©minaire St-FranƧois (RSEQ). In 2016, Le Blizzard (RSEQ Juvenile Division 1) went undefeated (10-0) and topped the season off with a Bol dā€™Or victory. ā€œI will remember, for a long time, these fantastic moments with my teammates,ā€ the former team captain said.

Amiot, who also played as a running back for Le Blizzard, was a three-time game MVP for the team last year (one overall, one offensive and one defense). During the provincial semi-final game against Ɖ.S du Triolet, he had five touchdowns and 221 total yards. Of that, 178 yards were rushing and 43 yards were passing. He was also named the overall defensive MVP for the RSEQ Juvenile Division 1. In 2014, he was an all-star and was named the teamā€™s most versatile player.

This past summer, Amiot continued his winning ways and helped Team QuĆ©bec win the gold medal at the 2017 Football Canada Cup. In the semi-final game versus Team Alberta, he was named the gameā€™s defensive MVP. Overall, ā€œit was an unforgettable experience that brought me a lot in terms of preparation for the next season,ā€ Amiot said.

ā€œI will continue to train hard and learn from my new coaches and teammates.ā€
