Jean-Remi Champoux is entering his seventh season in 2016.

He began playing in his first year of high school, where he suited up for the Leber Rebels of RSEQ Division 1. During his tenure with the Rebels, he was awarded the Team MVP twice and the Defensive Player of the Year on three different occasions. Champoux then trasnitioned into the collegiate sector, starring for an undefeated Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars squad that captured the CEGEP Division 1 championship in 2015.

Champoux, not surprisingly, recalls the Bol D’Or as his highlight from his rookie CEGEP campaign.

“For me, my highlight of this year happened during the Bol D’or. Every time I went on the field and gave it my all so I would not regret it later,” he said. “I made big hits and big plays and I was more than satisfied. When we finally won the game I was so happy; it was the best moment of my life.”

The 6’2 linebacker credits his father with being the most important person in his life, and acknowledges his former high school coach as being the greatest influence on his football career.

“The most influential person in my life is my Dad because he always been there to encourage my in everything I do and giving me the best advice he can,” elaborated Champoux. “In football, the most influential person is the head coach of my high school, [Marc-Antoine Joseph], because he always inspired me to have respect for him and [for] football. He always provided great values in sport and in life.

Having just completed his Freshman season at Champlain, Champoux has yet to experience the bulk of the recruitment process.

Champoux is currently employing a team-specific training program which keeps him rather busy in the off-season.

“I currently training four times a week with my team and doing a boxing training in my free time. I’m also trying to eat as healthy as possible,” he said of his regimen. “To improve for next season, I’m going to improve my mobility and my speed.”

As for a career path, the Sherbrooke native intends to enter the field of medicine.
