LB Leschyshyn puts in his work

Sisler Spartans Logan Leschyshyn has a tough offseason regime

Logan Leschyshyn is currently a member of the Winnipeg High School Football League’s Sisler Spartans. For the first 6 years of his football career Logan was on the North Winnipeg Nomads of the Manitoba Minor Football Association. In Logan’s last season with the Nomads, his team won the bantam provincial championship by shutting out their opponent 22-0. Logan added, “I consider that my best award.” When Logan was a junior, he received AAA Rookie of the Year.

“Last season we were plagued with injuries to quite a few key players, we all expected to head to the finals but it just didn’t end up that way,” explained Leschyshyn. “But I have to say the highlight of last season was just playing with all my buddies that were graduating, it was fun to share the field with those guys.”

Logan has a big support group. “My Mom, Dad, Grandma, and girlfriend are the most influential people in my life. They support me 100% of the time, and always have my back.”

On the field, Logan’s linebacker coach, Ian Irwin, has been his mentor/coach for the past 2 seasons. New defensive coordinator, Mitch Harrison, has helped the Spartan’s growth as well. Leschyshyn said, “Our new defensive coordinator has showed me so many new things on the defensive side of the ball, and it’s helped my game tremendously.”

The young Spartan comes from a large family where he has five brothers. Logan replied, “I have 5 brothers that mean the world to me.” Two of Logan’s brothers are playing with his old team the Nomads. The others are still too young to play, but Logan hopes they end up playing football too.

In the future Logan will go to college or university. He aspires to be a police officer one day and would like to travel a bit after high school.

Recently the young linebacker got an invite to tour the University of Crookston Minnesota and watch one of their games which he’s looking forward to.

This offseason, Logan would like to be in the weight room at least twice a day like he was last season. Logan’s main focus is to work on his footwork, explosiveness and strength. “I want to be fast off the ball especially if I’m playing down on the line, I want to be able to beat the lineman across from me with speed and strength,” concluded Leschyshyn.
