Easton Montour recently finished his junior season with the Sisler Spartans. In 2016, Easton recorded 40 tackles and 1 interception in 7 games in his first year with the varsity squad.
There are many reasons why Easton has enjoyed playing the linebacker position. He mentioned, βI enjoy playing linebacker because you’re hitting someone every play, and you need to be smart and verbal at the position in order to lead your defence and to call out plays and let your teammates know what is happening.βΒ While Easton hasnβt seen much recruitment yet, his coach is sending out game film to other coaches in the country.
Easton tries to model his game after the Carolina Panthersβ Luke Kuechly. Kuechly is someone Easton looks up to because heβs a great leader, studies a lot of game film and he makes a lot of tackles. Easton added, βHe (Kuechly) is just a freak on the field.β
Football means a lot to this Spartan andΒ he has been playing the sport since he was young. It has helped him stay disciplined and given him lessons that he can use in everyday life, and has also given him friends that he is still close with to this day.
βI don’t know what I would be doing without football, it has kept me out of trouble from a young age,β says Easton and he has some great support in his life to keep playing. He says the most influential people in his life and in football are his mom, grandma and the coaches at Sisler. βMy mother and grandma sacrifice a lot for me to be involved in football as much as possible,β said Easton. βThe coaches at Sisler always push me to be a better player and person.β
This off-season, Easton plans on improving his speed by going to Recruit Ready at the Golf Dome in the mornings. Easton would also like to improve by being more patient on the field and letting the play develop before attacking.Β After his senior season is over, Eastonβs plan is to continue playing football for a university in Canada.
