Legare drafted by Alouettes at 2013 CFL Draft

MONTREAL – The offensive lineman Carabins University of Montreal, Simon Légaré, was selected by the Montreal Alouettes in the sixth round, 47th overall, in the 2013 CFL Draft on Monday.

Since the beginning of the Carabins in 2002, he became the 13th player from the University of Montreal to be drafted by a professional team, the third by the Alouettes. Nickolas Morin-Soucy (2009) and Marc-Olivier Brouilette (2010) are the two have preceded. Seven former players from University of Montreal have played at least one official match in the professional ranks.

Sidelined by injuries in recent years, Légaré, a giant six-foot-four and 275 pounds, had done well at the National Invitational Combine Duane Forde in March.

“No team had beckoned me from the Combine and to be honest, so I do not expect to be drafted, confessed Légaré. But it does not change the fact that I am very very happy! And the Alouettes, I really can not ask for more! ”

Montreal’s 23-year criminology student, a former Spartans Cégep du Vieux Montreal and Cactus Notre Dame College, learned the good news through his mother who was contacted by phone.

“I watched the first two rounds of the draft on television and I was in the bus to the gym when my mother called me crying on the phone says Légaré with a smile. She took off from work today because she was too nervous! “.

An important member of the offensive line of the Carabins for four years, he had his best season in 2010, being selected to the All-Star team in Quebec and the second team in CIS.
