Tanner Olstad breathes the game.

Everytime he sets foot in his bedroom he inhales the fumes,”that always smell like football,” from the collection of worn football cleats that are on display.

Introduced to the game, at a very young age, by his father football has always been a meaningful part of life, despite the fact that his father is a Buccaneers fan and Tanner cheers for the Vikings.

Last year, Tanner and the Hunting Hills Lightning of the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) won their second straight Central Alberta League championship which was one of the biggest accomplishments of his football career.

According to Tanner, his success is due to two individuals – his father, who he inherited a deep love of the game that drives him and from Lightning Head Coach Kyle Sedgwick he has learned,”the importance of discipline.”

When he’s not playing in games of his own, Tanner volunteers at youth football camps, passing on what he has learned from his father and coach.

Tanner is still considering his options for school next year but is eager to get his plans finalized. While football is, no doubt, a part of those plans he looks at it as an avenue for him to get an education while playing the game he loves. He would like to study business, with hopes of owning his own business in the future. Among his considerations are Acadia, Alberta, Calgary and Regina.

In the meantime, Tanner is focused on the upcoming season, and increasing his yards after the catch by improving his vision and agility.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
