Dawson McCrady

Going into his senior year with the Hunting Hills Lightning of the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA), Dawson McCrady is yearning for his third straight Central Alberta League Championship.

The Lightning have won the Championship the last two seasons and in 2012 placed third at the Tier 2 Provincial Championships.

During his time with the team, Dawson has developed a solid understanding of the game and has also adopted a mature, team-first mentality which he credits to his dad and especially Lightning Head Coach Kyle Sedgwick.

“He teaches us a lot about working for something that is greater than you,” says Dawson, who also suited up for the Prairie Fire of the Calgary and Area Midget Football Association (CAMFA).  “As a football team it is important that everyone is playing for the logo on the helmet.”

As for his personal success on the field, Dawson is pleased but he also realizes that there is always more to learn.

“I’m just a rock waiting to be sculpted,” he says.

As for future plans beyond high school, he is keeping his options open despite receiving recruitment letters from both Alberta and Regina.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
