Lineman teammates bring size to Calgary Dinos

Calgary adds two local commits to their Class of 2018.

Offensive linemen Carter Johnson and Daniel Stefanyk from Henry Wise Wood High School have battled in the trenches together while in high school, and now that will carry over into university after the pair signed with the University of Calgary Dinos.

Hailing from Chestermere, Alberta, which is east of Calgary, Carter Johnson grew up watching the Dinos play. ā€œI see how hard they work as a team and all of the dedication from the coaches to make all the guys the best football players they can be, but also setting us up for life after football,ā€ Johnson said.

ā€œThe coaching staff is superb,ā€ he added. ā€œThe best in the nation no doubt.ā€

Johnson currently plays with the Henry Wise Wood Warriors (Calgary High School Athletic Association). His head coach played with the Dinos and in 1995, he won a Vanier Cup with the team.

Standing at 6ā€™3, 295lbs, Johnson has had his fair share of tournament play. In 2014, he was a member of Team Big Country in the Alberta Summer Games. The following year, he played in the Bantam Bowl. Last season, he played with the Team Alberta U16 and this year, he was part of the under-18 team at the Football Canada Cup. He will be representing Team Canada U18 in the 2018 International Bowl.

From 2012 to 2014, Johnson played bantam football with the Calgary Cyclones (Calgary Bantam Football Association). In 2015, he won a city championship with the Warriors and was a league all-star the following year.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
