LIONS TO FACE LAVAL ON SUNDAY

The York University football team will get its first taste of game action on Sunday (Aug. 29) when the Lions take on the Lavel Rouge et Or in a pre-season game in Quebec City.
Kick-off is set for 1pm at PEPS Stadium.

The game marks the first for the Lions under new head coach Warren Craney and co-ordinators Michael Faulds and Harry Laflamme, and will provide the coaching staff an opportunity to put the players through a complete game ahead of the regular-season opener, which is the following week.

Laval represents a strong challenge for the Lions as the Rouge et Or are perennial contenders for the CIS’ Vanier Cup. They most recently won the national championship in 2008 and will be seeking a return to the title game that will be played on their home turf at PEPS Stadium in November. Laval also hosted the game last year but fell one win shy of participating in the final, losing in the CIS semifinals to the eventual champion Queen’s Gaels.

The Lions will begin the 2010 OUA regular season on Monday, Sept. 6 against the visiting Guelph Gryphons. The contest will begin at 1pm at York Stadium.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
