Local commit joins Bisons

Manitoba adds a local product to their team.

Spencer Filmon, an offensive lineman from the Winnipeg Rifles (CJFL), will be staying home after signing with the University of Manitoba Bisons.

He said he chose the school mainly because it is his hometown university. “I had interest from other schools, but I wanted to stay and play football in Winnipeg,” he added. “The coaching staff is fantastic. They have already made a huge impact on how I am on and off the field.”

In terms of academics, Filmon is interested in going into kinesiology. “I have a cousin who is currently in it and is loving it. He highly recommended it to me,” he said.

Filmon stands at 6’1, 315lbs and has been with the Rifles since 2017. Before that he played with the St. Paul’s Crusaders (WHSFL) for four years. He primarily plays as a guard. In high school he was named the ‘most improved player’ in grade 12 on the St. Paul’s AAA team. He also won two championships at St. Paul’s, one in AA in 2014 and one in AAA in 2016.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
