Local recruit continues SMU family legacy

Nova Scotia defensive back joins AUS team’s 2015 class.

Saint Mary’s Huskies have announced the addition of Trae Colley to their football program.

The 5’8, 170 pound defensive back from North Preston, Nova Scotia will join the team for the 2015 AUS season.

“We are extremely happy to have Trae join our football family,” commented Huskies Head Coach Perry Marchese.

Among the teams Colley has suited up for during his career include Dalhousie Tigers of the Atlantic Football League (AFL), CEGEP Division 1’s Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars and Auburn Drive Eagles of the Nova Scotia Student Athletic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL).

Ultimately, academics as well as the opportunity to play in front of the hometown crowd were too good of an offer for Colley to pass up.

“I have decided to commit to Saint Mary’s because of the great business program and also because there is no better feeling than playing in front of your family and friends,” expressed Colley of his decision.

With his commitment, he will continue on a family legacy with the Huskies.

“My father also played for SMU so I believe it’s the right decision to finish what he started,” explained the Nova Scotia defensive back.  “The coaches and players of Huskies football also made my decision easy by the way they welcomed me to the team.”

“It feels like I’ve been a part of the team and I’m just making a return. I know it’s the perfect fit for me.”
