Local recruit envisions “bright future” for Gee-Gees

Ottawa offensive lineman joins OUA team’s 2016 class.

Brett Jelley will be beginning the CIS chapter of his gridiron career at home.

Recently, the 6’2, 265 pound offensive lineman signed with the Ottawa Gee-Gees.  Jelley will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

One of the main reasons Jelley chose the Gee-Gees was because of the team’s offensive scheme.

“I chose Ottawa University is because I love their style of offence, it’s a lot like the one we ran at Myers this year in senior OVFL, it’s a quick, high tempo offence that doesn’t huddle,” explained Jelley.  “Another is that they have a great coaching staff who I am really excited to work with, Head Coach [Jamie] Barresi and Offensive Line Coach MacDermott are absolute geniuses.”

Additionally, Jelly said the Gee-Gees provide him the best opportunity to grow as a gridiron player.

“Out of all the teams I looked at, and that wanted me to play, I thought they would be the ones to help be develop the most,” elaborated the offensive standout.  “They are the main reasons why I love the offence and chose to play here.”

Throughout his career, Jelley has suited up for the Ottawa Myers Riders organization of the Ontario Varsity Football League.

“I’d like to thank all my coaches that have helped me along the way, special thanks goes out to Coach Carl and Hugh,” added Jelley.  “I wouldn’t be where I am now without them and an even bigger shout out to my family.”

With his decision now made, the focus shifts for Jelley on how he can contribute to his future team, the Gee-Gees.

“This team has so much potential, they missed playoffs this year by a hair, they needed Queen’s to win and they didn’t but Ottawa U also had eight starters out on defence so that didn’t help,” expressed Jelley.  “I see a bright future on this team.”
