Local recruit felt at home with Carabins

Laval receiver joins Vanier Cup Champions

From the moment Raphael Dagenais stepped on CEPSUM, he knew it would become his future CIS home.

Recently, the 5’10, 165 pound receiver from Laval, Quebec signed with the Montreal Carabins.  Dagenais will join the Vanier Cup Champions for the 2015 RSEQ season.

“The guys are really welcoming and as soon as they saw me, they would come introduce themselves and ask a couple questions,” recalled the Quebec receiver.  “They wished me luck and they said “I hope you will commit here!”.”

“That’s when you know the coaches did a great job of implanting a culture of respect in the team. I don’t think there is any other school in Canada that has such a great combination of academics and athletics.”

This past season, Dagenais played south of the border for Maine high school team, Kent Hills Huskies. In 2014, he amassed a combined total of 1066 rushing and receiving yards and 10 touchdowns (812 yards on 43 receptions, nine receiving touchdowns, 254 rushing yards on 48 carries and a rushing major). For his efforts on the field, he was named on the Evergreen League First All-Star team as well as All-New England.

The receiver began his gridiron career with Vimot-Auteuil Patriotes.  After a couple of seasons with the team, he moved on to suit up for the high school team, College Laval Marauders.
